Targeting Tourists

In anticipation of it’s (now open) flagship store in midtown Manhattan, Target has been blanketing the city with ads, such as this one on a tourist bus…

I thought this ad was particularly creative for using the tourists’ heads as stand ins for Target shoppers. A tourist bus makes for a fairly uneven and peculiar canvas, so it’s great when those odd features are worked into the design.

It’s not so different form the new (rumored) R2-D2 Motorola Droid 2 design, seen below…

I’m still deciding if this is awesome or geeky or both, but I love how the camera lens, flash and sensor are all worked into the design, so that it becomes R2′s eye.

I’m not likely to run out to Target to buy an R2-D2 Droid anytime soon, but both of these examples make me think more highly of their respective brands.

Now turn towards the camera and give me a creepy smile

Like most designers these days, I’m often forced to sift through stock photography, 95% of which is utter garbage. Occasionally, I’ll come across equally atrocious stock video and wonder– How the hell could anyone put this stuff to use in anything other than a 3am infomercial or low-budget corporate meeting?

Well, now we know: A music video. Carl Burgess scoured Getty images to created this video for Ratatat entitled “Drugs.”

Ratatat – Drugs from Blink on Vimeo.

Oh Ratatat. This awkward feeling will last me the rest of the morning.
